HELVETIKA MAXIMUS Day one game 2

My army just as a reminder. It's a very interesting one and I intend to use it more often. More about my thinking after the last battle report. A bit of patience
So my next game was with NIK and his hanseatic germans ( 5614 ). A very foot army that I had faced last year. I expected a difficult game and being possibly pushed out of the table but I did not expect the battle of the unlucky generals ( both )

So Nik got lucky with terrain but there was enough open space for me . I clearly hoped to be able to hurt him on his right flank which he left exposed to attract me and I would try to delay aggressively on the other flank. My center was just praying never to get into contact

There is one thing to be said about nik's deployment. Any shooty army with unprotected guys would have hated it. He interspaced 6 bases SUGs , experienced shooters with his solid infantry line . That would make things very hard for my skilled unprotected javeliners
He had many LS infantry so charging with my SUP was not an option.
By the way on the very top of the picture you can see the 10 bases camp guards, tribal lose, unprotected, poor, combat shy guys. They never fought , never never ! so they did hold the camp .

General shooty advance

the men at arms are being cautious
Being flexible I enter the rough terrain that protect his flank and Nik deploys his skirmishing fire brigade . I will hate those guys

Some shooting

This was going to be a long afternoon, me still trying to master the army and my army telling me I should manoeuvre better

As I wrote a shooting match on both sides . I hoped to be able to shoot a unit dead with green and white dice but the story of our shooting will be ...strange ( for both of us )

I sacrificed a SUG to protect my flank but forgot to block his skirmishers advance and he slips behind my cavalry that will not be able to skirmish, ruan away from battle. Fatigue, distraction ..so it is. I must try to remember to pay more attention

So I cannot avoid the LS charge

I put pressure on the other flank, but shooting seems ...inefficient. At least he pulls back but my range being 2 MU and his drilled guys retreating 2 MU I start to feel the huge gap between mounted bow and mounted javelin

OK it's a game and I convinced my tribal infantry to go for it but tried to kill a few of those Frisians auxiliaries coming towards me

The battle is on
by the way my skirmishing screen is still alive. Amazing ...very simply Nik's dice were as good as mine. He rolled green that found the "S" or the blank side, just as I did. The same for our melees. Hence the battle of the unlucky generals as we both had problematic dice

I am rallying after run away or skirmish and the melee still goes on

Those men-at-arms lances do seem strange
So now my infantry is also engaged

. My skirmishers did nothing . Did I tell you abouy the battle of the unlucky generals

His mounted crossbowmen will charge and hurt my tribal loose infantry

Here nearing the end and my skirmishers still alive but not that long
I think the battle ended 3 - 5 in NIK's favour
Believe it or not but we fought, shot a consequent amount of blanco dice ( green, yellow...) . Still fun but I never had such a game were none of us managed to really hurt the opponent by lack of good dice. never both players till ...this game
Thanks' to NIK for that interesting game and the lesson about his skirmishers interspaced with his infantry
